We then head out of the city for lunch on the banks of Galve Lake and tour of Trakai Castle, a cradle of the Lithuanian statehood, important military and political centre, and headquarters of Lithuanian Grand Dukes. Afterward, a leisurely boat trip around the islands

Make our way to Latvia with stops at Hill of Crosses and Rundale Palace the former summer residence of the Duke of Courland Ernst Johan Biron, and most beautiful baroque architecture masterpiece in the Baltic’s. The Palace is an example of the early work of Italian architect Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli, who also created famed Winter Palace in St. Petersburg Check-in to Riga hotel and evening at leisure.

Today we step back in time with a visit to the 11th century Turaida Museum Reserve
After lunch we step inside former Soviet Latvia with a visit to an underground bunker which was only declassified in 2003.

Option 2: A visit to the Lahemaa National Park and the chance to try “bog walking”. Lonely Planet has listed bog walking as one of the best activities in Estonia. Afternoon and dinner at leisure
